Flying Colours

Sorry for the delay in posting.Kaden got on really well at his hospital check up in Edinburgh.First of all we went to see the lady who made Kadens brace.She checked him over with it on and said he really has grown so hopefuly he will get another 6 months out of it but if we have any concerns with it getting small/tight to let them know as braces normally last from 1 year - 18 months.However by the next time for a checkup which is June he'll have had that brace 15 months.I said to her about his brace digging into his bottom and legs when he was sitting and often marked him with doing so...so the lady took som off the bottom @ the front and back and that seemed to make a difference.
Then Kaden went for an x-ray with his brace on to see what the curve in his spine is with the brace on as last check up it was 25 and this time it was 21!We are so pleased as the brace is doing what it should and preventing his curve from getting worse :) Kaden was a real star from start to finish as he got the x-ray on his own and stood and did exactly what he was told.
Then we went to see the surgeon who asked if we had any concerns which we replied no.He said he was pleased so far with Kadens progress as the curve is now 21 and he said the longer we can keep it straight with the brace the better,as Kaden will still need an operation but hopefuly not until he' in adolesance.
All in all we are so pround and thankful to have our wee star Kaden x

I have posted a photo of Kaden yesterday with his sisters boots on (he's so funny)as we have really bad snow here in Scotland already!.Kadens had a bad cold and cough this week and got an anti-biotic for it so yesterday was really the 1st day he was feeling better since being bedded up most of last week.

Hospital for a checkup

Kaden has the hospital tomorrow in Edinburgh for his 6 month check up since having his back brace fitted.Last time his curve was 38 without the brace and 25 with the brace so hopefuly tomorrow it'll be the same or better.We have a early morning ahead as the hospital is a 2.5 - 3 hour drive from here.Fingers crossed all will be well :)

Cant believe i havent blogged about my big boy turning 3 years old!His birthday was on the 25th July and he didnt have a party as such he just had his brother and sisters here and we had some ice-cream cake .Can hardly believe where the last 3 years have gone ~ but anyway we're glad we are where we are now!Here's some pictures of my big birthday boy 'Kaden' x

Countdown To Kadens 3rd Birthday :)

Two weeks today and my baby boy Kaden will be 3 years old ~ i can hardly believe this time 3 years ago we were on edge waiting for his arrival.I'm so glad things have turned out the way they have and Kaden's thriving.This week we have the hospital to see the respiritory doctor and also Kadens surgeon who has done all Kadens ops up until now.
Hopefuly we'll get a good report on both fronts as Kaden doesnt have any issues at all at the moment apart from the eating side of things and his brace hurdle,but all in all Kadens just a happy normal almost 3 year old who does all the things in life to be expected for a 3 year old.

Home from Holidays

Kadens had a great few weeks in Florida,we went there on the 7th-21st May.The weather was great and we went to Disney and just chilled out.On our way there when we arrived at Gatwick i realised i had forgot to pack his overnight pump machine for his feeds - i was devestated as this was the MOST important item.Before we had left the dietition had mentioned not taking it and seeing how he went without it,but Kaden hardly eats anything and i couldnt see how he'd survive for 2 weeks without it?Never mind we had no choice.We just gave him 2 or 3 bolus feeds of milk a day and also some of water.He did eat some things like the odd slice of cheese and crisps and biscuits.Overall i dont really know if he lost alot of weight as he's so thin anyway - but now we're home he's back on his night feeds for now.

Back Specailist

Kadens consultant yesterday was really pleased with the progress so far with his brace.His curve in his spine was 38 and now its down to 25 within the last 8 weeks.he said its just buying time for the future and preventing the curve from getting worse as he reckons he'll need an operation around the age of 10years old,but he said also things could change and the curve might still worsen which means an operation to have rods inserted and and operation every 6 months to tighten them as he grows:-(but hopefuly this wont be the case - as for now we are sooooooooo pleased with our little star:)xx

Brace

Kaden had his back brace fitted on the 2nd March - so far so good.He's not so keen to get it on 1st thing in the morning but i suppose in time it'll just be something he's used to and it'll be like putting his shoes on?Anyway the day he got it fitted he had to try it on to make sure it fitted properly.The length wasn't too bad but she wanted to trim a bit more off the bottom and round the hole for his gastrostomy.Then once she had done that she had to fit elastic to one side to make it fit.After alot of hanging around he got his final fitting and the lady was happy with how it fits.
Now Kaden has wears it all day and night until around 4p.m then we take it off for around 4 hours then put it back on.Generally he's happy enough to keep it on all the time.To look at Kaden you wouldn't know he's wearing it.
We have a hospital check up in Edinburgh on the 28th April to see how thing are doing - he'll get an x-ray and meet the consultant again to see if he's happy with the progress.
Then next week its Jaxons 1st Birthday on the 8th April - we can hardly believe where the last year has gone!
Then on the 7th May we're off to Florida for 2 weeks for a holiday - Cant wait!!Here's some pics of the boys yesterday wearing turquoise for CDH Awareness Day which is held every year 31st March.In one of the photo's i took of Kaden he had appeared wearing his sisters purple hairband which he's taken a shine to!!

Busy Weekend

Kaden's big sister Regan was 12 years old on Saturday.She had a little party with some of her friends round.They went out in the limo for an hour and came home and ate pizza and some snacks and then she had a sleepover.
She was so excited we had to scrape her off the roof..Lol.Anyway they behaved pretty well and didn't make too much noise.
Cant believe she's 12 already - where does time go!!And cant belive my baby Jaxon will be 1 in April!
Kaden has the hospital in Edinburgh on Tuesday 2nd March for a fitting of his brace so that'll be the next thing.On the whole Kaden's doing really apart from the eating front.I'm sure it will come one day.

Edinburgh Hospital

Kaden had an appointment at Edinburgh hospital on Wednesday to get a cast made for a brace for his back.First challenge was finding the hospital as we are around a 2.5 hour drive away.Someone had called on Monday to say there was a cancellation slot if we would like to take it so i thought the sooner the better...Although Mike was busy at his work so my mother-in-law and i went down.Which meant me driving armed with a sat nav i didnt know how to use!LolEventually after asking a few people we got to the hospital around 1/2 hour early.We went in to the reception and the woman sent us off in the right direction.Our appointment was 2.30p.m and about 2.50p.m my mother-in-law said i think you better ask if your waiting in the right area.So i asked a lady who told me we were in the wrong area we should have been along the corridor.
We went through to the right area and around 5 minutes later they were ready for Kaden.The lady explained to Kaden what she was going to do and he had to lie on a special table and after he'd get a lollypop.He seemed fine with this so we went through to another room where the special table was.Once in the room i had to remove all his clothes and lift him on the table.The table looked like a scaffold with 2 thin strips of material running along itThe nurse the put a tight fitting body stocking on Kaden.Kaden was having none of it he was histerical.One nusre held his legs and i had to hold his arms above his head and the put a strap under his chin and pulled it tight and hooked it to the top of the bed.(If was awful to watch but had to be done as it save him having to get another anesthetic done and another stay in hospital.)The nurse marked in pen where his gastrostomy is and his hip are and then she started wrapping him in warm bandages.Once the cast had hardened she took a knife and cut it off right up the middle.Then Kaden was free to go...Thank goodness.It felt like i was tortureing him but its really for his own good.Once off the table Kaden calmed down as he was sweating with crying.But him and me couldn't wait to get out of the room.
The nurse said she'll send an appointment to get the brace fitted..Yet again at a different hospital in Edinburgh.Then the appointment after that will be longer as Kaden will need an X-Ray done to see if its doing what it should be.And he'll also need to see the specialist.
I'm glad its all over for now...and we'll have a few weeks maybe before the next hurdle.

Snow,Snow Go Away

Here in Scotland at the moment the weather has been miserable and cold with plenty of Snow.Kaden and Jaxon have both got the cold just now and in fact i kept Kaden off nursery today as his nusery tends to be a bit chilly.So i thought i'd keep him and the girls off school to save us all hiking out in the cold.Kaden was awake most of last night coughing...but so far tonight he's sleeping like a log.Here's hoping he'll sleep all night and won't waken up with a coughing fit.
I'm posting some pictures of my new toy(lol)for Jaxon - his new highchair which came today.I'm soooooooo sad..lol.He seems to like it anyway and so does Kaden as he too had a little shot in it and watched some t.v.
Kaden also helped do a little cooking today with his cooks outfit he got for Xmas...he LOVES a mess!!

' Xmas Party '

Kaden had his nursery Xmas Party today which he seemed to enjoy.He was excited about seeing santa there.He got up and dressed in a shot and even wanted hair gel on!Once at nursery he went in no problem and was keen to stay.When we went to pick him up the teacher said he wasnt too keen on Santa and kept his distance from him with a few tears.But apart from that he joined in the games and dancing and had a great time.When we picked him up he was excited and came running over and then disapeared again amongst all the children who were dancing.
On leaving he got a party bag with a jigsaw puzzle in it which he couldnt wait to open.
I can hardly believe how quick the weeks are flying in and Xmas is just round the corner.

Othopedic Appointment

Kaden had his othopedic appointment in Edinburgh on Wednesday last week.We travelled down at 6.30a.m as his appointment was at 10a.m and the hospital is around a 2 and 3/4 hour journey from Aberdeen.Once there they took kadens height and weight and sent him for an X-Ray of his back and neck.Kaden sat quite well considering being only 2.Once the X-Rays were taking we had to wait for a bit to see the specialist.Around an hour later we were taken through to meet the specialist.He asked some questions regarding Kadens past history and asked if we could get him undressed down to his nappy so he could get a proper look at Kadens back.When looking at his back he explained Kaden does have a curve in his spine not at the top or bottom but in the middle.He said his best course of action for the moment was to get Kaden fitted with brace which he will have to wear for 20 hours a day and to keep a close eye on him for the near future to see if the brace will do what we hope it will and help staighten his spine.He said if this does not work he will need an operation where they will insert lods to his back which will need tightened every 6 months as he grows.Or on the other hand if it does work and he does need an operation it can be done in adolecance which wouldnt be such an ordeal we feel for Kaden as he's been through so much in his short life already.
Kaden has an appointment in January to go to Edinburgh to get the brace cast made but if he doesnt sit still they will need to get him back to get an anesthetic to get it fitted exactly to his body shape.Here's hoping he'll sit still and there will be no need to go to theatre.
I think in the near futrure we'll be seeing alot of Edinburghs sick kids hospital.
Although Kaden has a curve in his spine it doesnt stop him from doing anything that other children does - he LOVES his nursery and chasing the girls!!

Feeling Better..

I'm glad to say Kaden and Jaxon are now on the mend.Kaden is certainly feeling more like himself and running around everywhere as usual and repeating everyhthing you say.He's been sleeping alot better too which helps.Last week i kept him off nursery just to make sure he was clear of his illness and properly over it.We'll see how he goes this week and if he's feeling okay on Tuesday i'll maybe put him back to nursery and just make sure he's wrapped up.Jaxon too is looking better and seems to be feeling better as he's not so choked up anymore and he too is sleeping a 'bit' better.Jaxon isn't the best sleeper without a cold as he wakes up a few time s wanting a drink.
I had just fed Jaxon the other day and went through to the kitchen with the dirty plate and i heard him cough and when i went through he'd been sick allover himself and was still smiling!That boy is such a smiler!!

Hospital

I took Kaden back to the doctor on Thursday as his condition hadn't improved and he was breathing faster.When the doctor had a look at him she agreed he was working harder breathing and his pulse rate was up.She said with all his symtoms she was sending him up to the hospital.Once at the hospital we were called through almost immediatly.We were put in isolation until the could veify what was wrong with Kaden as he was showing symtoms of Swine flu.They weighed Kaden and put him on Oxygen and put a drip in his hand.They also took some mouth swabs and a gastostomy swab too.
Poor Kaden was really miserable and this is the 1st time since leaving the hospital as a baby he's needed Oxygen.His Oxygen levels were never above 95 and this is what they say they were aiming for 95 or above.With Kaden only having one good lung we werent so sure what his levels normally were but they were giong by a child with no issues.
For 2 days Kaden was kept in isolation and once the swabs came back and bloods to say he was clear of swine flu he was moved up to the medical ward.At the medical ward he was still kept on the Oxygen until he could cope without it.They had tried a few time before to wean him off completely but his levels kept coming down to 93,92 91,90 un a few time 89,88.
On Saturday night the nurse said she'd take him off the Oxygen for a while and see how he coped.I said to her i didn't think Kadens was the same a normal boys with 2 lungs as he was doing the work with just on good one...she agreed but said if it went lower than 93 they would put him back on.The level kept creeping down then back up roughly between 93-90.They kept him off and he coped well.
At the doctors rounds on Sunday they asked if we were keen to take Kaden home,which we said yes and they said although he still had a cough they'd let him home as this would clear up hopefuly shortly.So Kaden got home on Sunday on anti-biotic and seems to be improving...although we came home to another sick boy who also has a cough and cold!
The brown household has been a very sleepless one since Sunday..lol.I'm sure they will feel better soon.

Doctor

I took Kaden to see the doctor last night as he hadn't improved all day.My healthvisitor had called to see if i'd had Kadens button checked as it was awful red on Thursday when she came round to do Jaxons 6 month check.I told her i hadn't and that he was ill and she said call the doctor to get him checked over incase the g-tube site was the cause of an infection.So i called to doctor and he called me back and said he'd see him in 20 minutes so i put a coat on him and bundled him in the car and headed for the doctors.The doctor checked him over and said he had a bit of a temp and he was showing signs of H1 N1 which he said is rife at the moment but he said he'll give him a course of anti-biotics 1st too see if this helps him and if within the next 24 hours there is now sign of improvement we have to take Kaden back again.
Kaden was up most of last night crying and gagging again so i switched his pump off early.Every time he cryed he woke the baby..so i had two screaming boys!
Hopefuly there will be an impovement in him today.

'Poor Kaden'

Kaden has been really unwell for the last few days with a high temperature and runny nose and a cough.He's been gagging alot with clear stuff coming up and because he cant be sick after having his fundo its awful to watch him rench and gag.He's lying on the sofa as i type this...but last night i was up near all night with him,he kept shouting'mum'.Around 5a.m i decided to switch off his pump as he was renching so much.But hopefuly as the day goes on he'll feel better.If not i'm going to get a doctors appointment to get him checked over to be on the safe side.

Hospital Appointment

Kaden was at the hospital last week for a neo-natal checkup.The doctor hadn't seen Kaden since November last year and at that time had mentioned putting Kaden to a special school for children with learning difficulties as he wasnt walking or doing quite what he should have for his age.I was quite annoyed to say the least as i felt Kaden was slow and it was just a case of catching up when ready.Then during the year after still not seeing Kaden again the same doctor from the hospital sent a letter to my dostor referring him again to the same school which i declined yet again.Since then Kaden is walking talking and doing all the thing he should and SHOULDNT be doing lol.
When the doctor from the neo-natal saw Kaden and saw his capabilities she was quite impressed and said hes now following the chart/range of what a child of 27 months should be.She also mentioned the 'School for special children' again and said she was quite happy with Kadens progress and form here on in Kaden is a 'Normal' child as far as learning goes.I think a mother knows her own child and i wanted to prove her wrong!
On return from hospital we had a letter waiting for us for Kaden to travel to Edinbugh to see the specialist for his scholosis in December.So thats our next hurdle,we're just anxouis to see the outcome of what the spcialist has to say.
On another note Kaden and Jaxon are growing so fast at the moment.Jaxon is now in a big boy cot.However hes been a nightmare through the night waking about 2-3 times.I'm like a walking Zombie Lol!

' 6 Months'

Wow how time flies!I cant believe my baby Jaxon is 6 months old today.It doesn't seem long ago we took Kaden home from hospital let alone Jaxon.
Kadens doing great just now.He's loving his nursery which he goes to on a Tuesday and Thursday morning.He sits with the other kids for snack and tries everything that is put in front of him..he might not eat alot but even if he takes a spoon or two or even a taste its a start.He's also been painting and drawing which he enjoys so much hes always got a pen in his hand at home and has scribbled allover his bedroom wall and my sofa!I suppose its part of growing up and we'll just keep our 'old' sofa until the boys are older and past the drawing on everything stage!Kaden love Jaxon and would pick him up given half the chance.I grabbed the camera today as i was getting them changed for a bath as kaden had his arm round Jaxon trying to kiss him...but as usual by the time i got the camera he'd moved but i took some other pics anyway.

Flu

I took my oldest daughter to the doctor this week as she was feeling unwell for a few days - lifeless,headache,temperature and sore tummy.I just about fell off my seat when the doctor said she had 'swine flu'!He gave her a course of tami flu tablets to take every 12 hours for a week and to keep her off school for a week and told her she will feel miserable but she will get better.The same day i got a call from the school to go and pick up Regan my younger daughter as she was feeling unwell.Thankfully she seems to be on the mend but i kept her off school anyway.I also kept Kaden off nursery just incase he's carrying anything.I've been worried sick incase the boys will pick up swine flu so poor Brooke has been in her room for a few days.She'e on the mend now and feeling alot better so hopefuly it wasn't swine flu she had and maybe just a bad bug?

Eating Clinic

Kaden has the eating clinic tomorrow...so we'll see what tomorrow brings as lately hes been eating less and somedays hardly anything.He has to take a teddy with him tomorrow for a teddy bear picnic so hopefuly that will be enjoyable for him.
Kadens great fun at the moment he repeats everything you say he's like a little parrot!
Yesterday i took some pictures of him hugging Jaxon which was nice to get him to sit at peace for a few minutes!The other week i left Jaxon on my bed after feeding him and went through to a different room,to hear Kaden being awful quiet.I went through to the bedroom to find Kaden feeding the baby with a perfume bottle and my poor baby was stinking of perfume and just lying there letting him do it...just wait a few months and Jaxon will be sticking up for himself as he's growing sooooo fast. Normally if Kadens quiet there's something going down as Kadens a little monkey!

Busy Week

Kadens had a busy week this week.He got his haircut on Saturday (to stop people calling him a girl)and sat like a champ.Then on tuesday he had hs first day at nursery which went not too bad.He went in no problem and seemed ok when i left.I called around an hour later and the lady said he was fine had been in tears a few times but was ok.When i went to pick him up he came running over to me and then disappeared and came back holding a painting he had done.Once we left he seemed quite happy at the thought of going back again on thursday for another morning session.But today he was keen enough to go in but not so keen to stay without me.As i was leaving he came over and held his hand up for me to hold it and take him with me and then when he relised he was staying he started crying and i was ushered out of the room to be told he'll be fine..it broke my heart to see my baby crying.When i went back for him the ladys said he wasn't as settled as tuesday but was ok with a few tears along the way.I suppose its to be expected that there are tears to start with and once he's used to his surroundings he'll be fine...or here's hoping.
On wednesday Kaden also had his 2 year check up at the healthvisitors.She seemed happy with his speech and movement and his progress and said she would review his speech again in 3 months to keep me happy but by then she says he'll probably be speaking in sentences.
We've also been busy in our house this week as we are putting our house up for sale next week so we've been tidying up and disposing of alot of unneeded junk we've hoarded along the way.
So hopefuly this time next month the house will be sold as we have bought another one about 10 minutes away with more room for the growing but stopped growing brown brood!

Surgeon follow up

Kaden had a follow up with the surgeon today just for him to check on Kadens progress.He's quite happy with the way things are as far Kadens growth is.Kaden for height is average and he's still following below the bottom line of the chart for his weight which the surgeon seems happy enough with - he said its just his makeup.He asked about his feeding and how much hes eating.That varies from day to day.Kaden will put anything in his mouth but is not too good with swallowing hes better with things that meltsuch as digestives and butter,mini chedders, cheese slices,chocolate.We had a laugh with the Dr as i told him we went out for tea last night and Kaden had a tiny bite of my burger,and as we drove home he fell asleep so i put him straight into his bed.Then this morning i was changing his nappy and getting him dressed and i saw him chewing something and i said what have you got in your mouth and he opened his mouth and there was the piece of burger from last night!!Yuck!!
The surgeon also showed me Kadens x-rays from when he was born up until today and he thinks the curve in his spine wasnt present at bith but has got worse since 08 into 09.He says its probably in hie genes an he also has a pectus which normally comes hand in hand with a diaphramatic hernia.He also said if the surgeon in Edinbugh wishes to talk with him about Kaden past surgery his is quite happy to talk to him about it.He also said surgery regarding scholiosis is normally NOT rushed into and is normally done around adolesance.
So now its just the waiting game.

Results

Kaden had the hospital on Thursday last week for the results of his MRI Scan.The doctor said the MRI showed Kaden has NO abnormalities of the spine which is great news.He said he wanted another X-ray done which was done the same day.The doctor we met specializes in Club feet and other fields in Othopedics but not scholiosis.He said he would put Kaden forward to meet the Specialist surgeon in Edinburgh and we will have to take it from there and discuss all our options.He said we dont have to jump into an operation tomorrow but its something we might need to think about for the near future.
Another hurdle for poor kaden to get over as if he's not been through enough!Never mind we are so blessed to have our special boy with us.

Hols All Over Once Again

Back to the wet rainy Scotland once again!We came home from our holidays on Wednesday after a great 2 week break and great weather every day.The girls had a great time spending most days in the pool.Kaden also loved the water which was a suprise as he never would go in on previous occassions...and we didn't take any swim gear for him as we thought we were waisting our time but he proved us wrong.Jaxon on the other hand had other ideas as he only went in the water once as he wasn't keen on the cold water yet at home he loves the bath.
Time seems to just fly by these days as i cant believe the kids only have 3 weeks left of the summer holidays as already they have had 3 weeks.And when they go back on the 18th of August,Kaden starts nursery!

Respiritory Clinic

Kaden had the respiritory clinic yesterday.When we arrived Kaden got his height and weight checked...his weight is 21lbs 3oz which shocked me as i thought he would be heavier,and his height is 85c.m.The doctor he saw gave Kaden a good look over and sounded his chest.He said Kaden seemed to be fine breathing wise but mentioned his scholiosis.I said we're waiting on the results of the Mri which was done some weeks ago.We have an appointment at the hospital on the 6th August @ the othopedics.I asked if his spine looked bad and he said yes as Kaden is young and it tends to get worse as they get older and it can affect the lungs.He said just too wait and see what the specialist says.
One hurdle jumped and then another cropps up.Hopefuly it wont be as bad as we think.I took some photo's of the boys today with Kaden allover his brother as usual.

First day of Holidays

Today is the first day of the school holidays - so far so good.The girls went to the carnivals with their friends and the boys and i had a quiet afternoon at home.The weather here in the UK this past few weeks has been great its been lovely and warm and sunny for a change.When its been hot we've done plenty of walking with the boys and its been like being on holiday.Speaking of hols were off to Majorca on the 15th July..the girls cant wait.In fact i think we are all ready for a break and change of routine.
Kaden has the hospital this week on Thursday to the respiritory clinic,since last visit he's had 2 addmission into hospital so we'll see what they say,as the year before he had no hospital stays and they dismissed him for a year.
Just now Kadens into climbing.Brooke was in the garage sorting out a tent and Kaden was with her but disappeared and i came out to look for him,he was standing on the picnic table!!Then the day after he had thrown the ball out of our front garden onto the road and was standing on the wall shoting and pointing at it.Where in the process of getting prices to get a fence put ontop of the wall to keep Mr Menace in.
He's a great help with Jaxon getting nappies and wipes and such when he's not actually lying ontop of him trying to give him a hug or his dummy.
We aslo had a little drama on Saturday night with Kaden.He was on his machine in his bed and i went out of the room and left Brooke there with him.Brooke decided she'd go and get something from another room and left him and when i came through my boy was at the bottom of the bed ready to climb off with the machine which had fell down the back of the bed and he'd pulled his g-tube right out of his tummy - Boy what a panic...So grabbing a spare tube we have Mike held Kaden down and i had to do the nnedful and put a new one in as the hole closes really quick.Every time so far when Kadens had his tube changed the nurse says do you want to do it,but i'm quite happy to watch.This time i had no choice but to do it and really its easy its just the thought of it.For holidays incase it should happen again we're taking 2 spare ones.And as far as Kadens feeding goes during the day the dietition told me to stop them as i had called her regarding feeds for holiday and changing the quantaties for carrying,she said because Kaden was only getting 70ml bolous once a day we can leave it out as its only 70 calories.And when he's at the hospital this week we'll get him weighed to keep an eye on his weight...as Kaden with no clothes on is something else,he look like someone out of a concentration camp he's sooooo thin.

'Nursery'

I put Kadens name down for nursery and he's got a space to start after the summer as the nusery takes children from 2 - 4 year olds.We went on Thursday morning for a look round and Kaden at first was very unsure and just stood back and watched the other children.
After about 10 minutes one of the helpers took Kaden over to the snack table where some of the children were having a snack and sat him down.He sat down next to a little girl who was having a biscuit and milk.The lady gave Kaden some water and a biscuit and a piece of cake.He had a few bites of the biscuit then dropped it in his water.Then he had a bite if cake and left it.
Kaden then went over to the road mat and played with some cars,and then a bigger boy came over and pulled it from him and sqeezed his face which didn't bother Kaden but bothered me!!By this time i decided it was time to go home.I'm sure nusery will be good for Kaden as far as mixing and sharing goes but i'm a little unsure about leaving my baby somewhere i cant protect him,although i'm sure it wont do him any harm and maybe he'll learn to stick up for himself as he just stands and lets other kids pull toys away from him.
Kaden has the eating clinic on Monday and this time he's going to be doing messy play - i bet he'll LOVE that!

Eating Clinic

Kaden got on fine at the eating clinic on Monday.They had a group of around 6 or 7 parents and we started off by discussing eating worries and issues.Kaden has been putting pretty much anything in his mouth..(Even the dogfood)its just the swallowing.He seems to hold the food in his mouth forever until it dissolves.Apart from chocolate,he has no problem where he cant get enough in his mouth at one time!!LolThen they got some chocolate buttons and crisps (melt in your mouth ones)and yogurt and put them on a table for the children to eat and see the reaction.
I took Kaden over to the table and opened the yogurt and gave him a spoon and boy what a time he had.He eat his yougurt.He stuck his hand in the butttons dish took a hanful and eat a few crisps - and bingo that was lunch!Most teh other kids were pretty much at the same stage as kaden and some wouldn't eat hardly anything.They have scheduled it for again in 2 weeks and thereafter every fortnight.The next time thr kids will get to do messy play with some jelly to see if they put any towards there mouth.
I'm getting slow at blogging these days as there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day.I spend my life feeding Jaxon,i put him down and then he screams so i pick him back up again.I cant seem to get anything done.
Jaxon has been slightly constipated so maybe he's just uncomfortable,and i'm hoping he'll grow out of the constant crying.
I'm up writing this during the night as i have really bad toochache,and i got up to take some painkillers.I called the emergency Dentist on Friday and they gave me an appointment for 1st thing Saturday morning.The dentist gave me some antibiotics to take as my face is swollen and my tooth is infected.I'm waitiong for an appointment next week again withe emergency dentist for an x-ray and some root treatment (Scary).
It's such a long time since i have hadd toothache but i wouldn't wish it on anyone as its soooooooooooo painful.Never mind hopefuly we'll get it sorted next week and i'll be back to normal.
Kaden got a police car this week as an early Birthday present as we'll be on holiday when its his birthday.He LOVES it.I'll post a pick of him getting in it...he spend most of the time getting in and out of it.

Kaden is such a big boy these days,he seems to have grown since Jaxons arrived.His eating has been getting better by the week.He love thing with cheese in it - like macaroni cheese and cheese slices and cheesy crisps.He also loves yogurt and eats tiny bits of toast.He doesn't actually chew thing he waits until the food dissolves in his mouth..so mealtimes can take forever!!
Kaden has the hospital on Monday for the eating clinic (which he's never been to).There's going to be other children in the same position as Kaden as far as eating goes,so it will be interesting to see other children eating and with similar problems to Kaden.
Were still waiting on the results on Kadens MRI,hopefuly we should here shortly.
Kaden has been allover his brother recently like a rash..it's so funny to see.If Kadens in the same room as Jaxon and is quiet that means he either lying on him or trying to pick him up or stealing his dummy (Pacifier)Speaking about pacifiers i noticed on Sofies blog a pacifier called wubbanubs - and being me i couldn't resist.So after searching the net i got 2 sent over from the states..They arrived today so Thank you Sofie!!Also while checking on my cdh blogs i found another item i fancied a pokerdot stroller so need you ask i searched the net allover again and am getting one shipped over from the states(Thanks Carter!)
I think i need to stop looking at other peoples wares and focus on the cdh babes!

I found the charger at last for my camera so i'll post some pictures.

Mummys 'Little Star'

Kaden went to hospital for an MRI scan today.He was booked in for first thing in the morning and had to at the hospital for 8a.m.Mike took the day off and headed for the hospital first for 8a.m and i waited to see Regan off to school and then i headed straight for the hospital.We got there just around 9a.m just in time to see Kaden getting ready to head downstairs to the main hospital for his scan.Mike and i and Jaxon,a nurse and Kaden went to the scanning which was quite a walk away - the nusre had taken a wheelchair for Kaden but decided since i brought the pushchair that would suit better.Once at the MRI scanning area,they called Kaden through and Mike went through with him and waited until Kaden was given the Gas to put him to sleep - it breaks your heart watch him fight it and then drift off.Once asleep Mike came back to to waiting area where i was waiting with Jaxon and we waited for the nurse to come and tell us Kaden was ready to come back through and back to the ward.We got back to the ward at around 10.45a.m with a very unsettled Kaden who was just upset on waking up and wondering where he was.Once settled the nurse gave Kaden a slice of toast and some water - which Kaden had a good few bites of the toast and sips of water.If the food and water stayed down Kaden would get home.Thankfuly the food stayed down and we also gave him a bolus feed which stayed down.At around 12.45 we asked to be discharged and we got home.And thankfuly thats another hurdle over and we have to wait 2 weeks or so for the results.
Looking at Kaden later on in the day you would never know he'd been through anything different today.
Kaden was a real star today...and just took it all in his stride.
He was back to his normal cheeky self - standing on my windowsill which was a 1st for him today as he normally sits on it but today he went that step further and stood on it!
He also was walking around the kitchen with a pencil having a little scribble on the walls while casually walking past!
On a different note we got Jaxon weighed yesterday and he's upto 9lbs2oz.Boy does he like his milk!
I haven't taken pictures lately as my camera is still out of action - thanks to Kaden.
One day i'll take the time to look for my charger for my other camera, it's just trying to find the time with 4 kids as there's always something else comes up.

Kaden got hold of my camera yesterday before going in his bath - and need you ask he threw it in the bath..to be quickly fished out by his sister!So far it's not working but maybe come time once its dried out it might?Hence no pictures for a while,although i did get a new camera for xmas but i proffered the old one,and until i find my charger for my new one i cant post any pictures.
Here's hoping i find the charger or the 'wet' camera drys out!?

'Mummys helper'

Kaden has been a great help lately.I ask him to get the babys nappies and wipes and he goes and gets them for me.He comes with one nappy to start with then another and another until we end up with about five!
Kaden has never had a dummy(binkie)but lately when the baby drops his Kaden picks it up and puts it in his mouth!
Trying to keep an eye on Kaden at the same time as feeding Jaxon is a real challange,if he's not emptying the drawers out in the kitchen he's touching the waching machine or opened the door and in the back garden.So i've been trying to get him to stay in the same room as me and sit in Jaxons seat and watch the T.V.Which works sometimes.
On Tuesday we got confirmation that Kaden has to go into hospital for a day case to get the MRI scan done on his back on the 19th May.This is a day i'm dreading as he will get a general anesthetic - we knew the appointment was coming,but once i got the call i was in tears as i feel my boy has been through enough.
Hopefuly he's still young enough not to realise whats really going on and will recover just as well as previous visits.

What a Speed...

Kaden has grown up over the last few weeks since he's become a 'big brother'.What a speed he moves at - he doesn't walk he runs!He's just learnt to open our back door and any opertunity he's off.The other night i was holding Jaxon in the lounge and Kaden was in the kitchen and all of a sudden i thought Kadens awful quiet (which normally means trouble) and i ran through to the kitchen to find he'd opened the back door and was out in the back garden with the dog picking up stones,i was just so reliieved that the back gates were closed as sometimes they are left open for the limos to come and go and i had visions of me running down the road looking for him!Boy is he a menace...the other day i had to pull staples out from his mouth,he just touches everything.He also had scissors in his hand the other day he'd found in the bedroom and came walking through the house with them in his hand and also a screwdriver.
That boy is worth the watching!!!!!!!!!

'Meet Jaxon'

Here's the newest arrival in the brown household - Jaxon Brown,was born on 8/4/09 @ 12.14 weighing 5lbs 11oz by c-section.So far so good.He's been such a good baby and content.Jaxon has a touch of jandice at the moment which we just need to keep an eye on,but basically it's only really on his face.Kaden doesn't seem too sure of him yet he just keeps his distance and says baba.He has thrown a toy yesterday at him,but generaly he just points and smiles at him - after all he's still a baby at only 20 months.I feel so guilty for leaving Kaden and staying over in hospital but i had no other option...but Kaden got on great with his dad and sisters and after a few days didn't even bad an eye that i wasn't around.Which i supose has made me feel worse the fact when we came home from hospital yesterday Kaden was kind of sulking with me and wasn't too fussed i was home!
Today we went to get some tiny baby clothes as everything drowns Jaxon at the moment,and i think i've over done it and strained my wound as i've been suffering all afternoon with it.So i came home and went to bed for an hour or so.Tomorrow i'll start to take things a bit slower,but it's really hard having a toddler that you want to lift and cuddle but can't.
On another note ; Thanks Kristy for the mention,and i'm so glad you like the parcel - and i can't wait to see your new baba. xx

Kaden these days spends his days climbing on things and opening cupboards and pulling things out allover the floor.He also sits beside the dogs bowl and moves her food from one dish to another...or scatter it across the kitchen floor.
Here's kaden today watching his sister and her friend on the trampoline - he's about through the window as he climbs on the back of the sofa.

Kadens baby brother is making an appearance on the 7th April as we went to the hospital last week and they have changed the date to 1 week sooner due to high blood pressure and having only 3cm of fluid round baby.We have an appointment for another scan on Tuesday to check the bloodflow to the baby,so hopefuly all will be well and then the following Tuesday baby brown will arrive.

Kaden had a hospital appointment on Wednesday about his back starting to curve.They looked at his 2 recent x-rays and some from his 1st few days of life and showed me the difference between then and now.He said that from day 1 Kaden had a slight but hardly noticeable bend in his spine which since then has become worse and he thinks he may have scoliosis.He said he wants an Mri scan done of Kaden and from there he will decide the next step to take - he wants too see if there are any abnormalities in his spine.The doctor said he would refer him to the surgeon in Edinburgh as we dont have one in Aberdeen and we'll take it from there.I'm a bit anxious as Kaden will need to go into the hospital in Aberdeen for a day and be sedated to do the Mri scan - so its just another waiting game.

Home from Hospital

I took Kaden to the doctors on Monday to be told they had no appointments as Kaden had been up most of the night coughing his feeds up.On the way to the doctors he coughed up brown stuff which really concerned me.Once the receptionist told me there was no appointments i showed her his burp cloth and said i wanted him seen.She called a doctor who took Kaden through to his office and checked him over.After a thorough check the doctor said he felt Kaden needed to be seen at the hospital as he had deteriorated since Thursday.He gave us a letter to hand in at the hospital and he also called the hospital to let them know Kaden was coming.
Once at the hospital they moniterd Kaden and put him through to the asessment ward wher we waited for a doctor to come to see us.The doctor came round and checked him over and put him down for a X-ray.Once the X-ray came back she said it was pretty much the same as the one from January.Which they weren't too concerned about.Because Kaden wasn't keeping his feeds down and had a temperature they wanted him to stay overnight and start dioralyte which is just a water with sugar to see if he kept that down.
We were transferred upto the medical ward and got a isolation room - which was quite nice rather than a busy ward.Kaden during the night was awake every 1 hour,every time i put my head down he seemed to waken up.
On Tuesday the doctor came and had a look at Kaden and said i could take him home in the afternoon if he kept the water down until lunchtime - which he did.But my poor boy was just so miserable.
At around 2p.m the doctor said we could go and gave us 48 hour access to the ward if things were to change,and he said just call them and head straight back up.Once home Kaden was just sleeping all the time and they had given me the dioralyte home with me to water down his feeds.So in the evening i set up his pump and watered down his milk and put him on his pump.He sleot really well - in fact all night...and i couldn't sleep for worrying he was ok.
Wednesday Kaden slightly improved but is still very weak...but today he looks alot better although he still has a terrible cough.
I had the midwife yesterday and she checked my bloodpressure which was up...which i told her was probably due to worry about Kaden,so she's doing a home visit tommorrow to check it again.Hopefuly all will be well as i dont fancy the weekend in hospital!!

Back to Doctor

I took Kaden back to the doctor on Thursday as he'd been fevered and coughing all night Wednesday.The doctor checked him over and said he heard something in his chest and because of his history he would give Kaden an antibiotic for a weeks course and to also keep giving Kaden calpol to keep his temperature down.
Since Thursday Kaden has been up and down,he follows me round the house saying hug..hug all day long.I hate to see him so miserable.Every night Kaden cant get slept for coughing and the last 2 nights i've switched off his pump during the night as he's being sick with coughing.
Tonight we are all having a early night with the hope of getting some sleep - although we better get used to sleepless nights as its only 6 weeks until baby brown appears!!

Feeding...

I had a word yesterday with the dietition about Kadens weight which is 8.5kg as i'm a bit cocerned.In October Kaden was weighed and he was 8.2kg and 2 weeks ago when he was admitted to hospital he was weighed again and he hadn't really gained that much.The dietitions plan was to change Kadens feeds during the day to a higher calorie milk and give him less of a bolus so he was still getting the calories but less milk - but with one thing and another this didn't really happen.So i called the dietition to discuss this plan and she told me to chang his feeds to the higher calorie one - which i did as of yesterday.And so far so good..it seems to be agreeing with him.We are still trying to push oral feeds of which seem to be getting sligtly better...some days better than others.Although Kaden seems more interested in trying more things.As long as the foods not too lumpy he'll tolerate some spoonfuls - yesterday he had a small yogurt at lunchtime and a handful of crisps and at tea-time he had 1/2 a yogurt.So we are getting there.But my poor wee boy still looks underfed!!
Day by day Kadens also getting steadier on his feet which is great to watch.

Follow Up

Kaden had the physio today,and got on really well.When we arrived the physio was out of office - so as we waited Kaden was keen to get going!!So he strolled into the room where the physio worked and stood and watched another patient being treated.When the physio came she was really impressed to see Kaden on his feet,and even smiling!Everytime we went to physio Kaden used to cry as soon as we got there.So today was a real treat to see a happy smiley boy.She got Kaden to walk across the floor to her as she held a big yellow ball - which he did (slow but sure).Then she said she'd a video of Kaden walking,and smiling.She said she was going to sign Kaden off today as she knows he can walk when he wants,and is doing everything now a normal toddler would do.
So today as we left there were 3 happy people (Kaden,the Physio and mummy).
Kaden has been looking and feeling alot better this week,and his antibiotics are finished tommorrow - so hopefuly that'll be the last of the illness for a while and we can look forward to our new arrival in April.

Rough few days

Kadens had a rough time for the last few days.He's had a cough mainly at night time for the past three weeks.But a couple of days ago he started coughing during the day and it was like coughing fit - he couldn't stop.So i took him to the doctor on Tuesday and he checked him over and gave him an antibiotic for a weeks course.But on the Wednesday he seemed worse and he'd been up all night coughing and choking and being sick while on his pump,so in the end i switched his pump off to see if he would settle - but it didn't give him any relief and he was also bringing back up his medicine.I called the same doctor again who had agreed to see him again the next day if he hadn't improved.When Kaden was breathing you could hear like a rattle,and i was concerned it might be in his chest.So we went back to the doctor to get him checked over.After a thorough check the doctor said he felt now that the cold was now in Kadens chest and he was going to phone the A&E hospital for them to have a look at him.We went to the hospital where there too he got a thorough check over and we were put through to the admission ward to wait for a senior doctor.The doctor came and checked Kaden over and sais yes he had a wet cough and it had gone into his chest.They did an X-Ray to check and see how his lungs were doing and whether he needed any additional treatment apart from his antibiotics.He explained that if the x-ray came back and they wer happy with it we could do 1 of 2 things go home (because the hospital is only 5 minutes away)on antibiotics or if the X-ray showed concern then they would keep him in and start an iv.Thankfuly the doctor came round once the X-ray was down and showed it to me and said he did have signs of something on his right lung(good lung)but the antibiotics would clear that up,so if we were happy we could go home and keep giving him the antibiotics for a week.Speaking to the doctor also i mentioned his spine is being pushed over to the right,which we had noticed before but seems to be getting worse.He said they do see this often with CDH babies and he'd mention it to the orthopedic surgeon to see if we can look into it.Then he gave us the go ahead to go home if we wanted to :-
So of course we jumped at the chance to go home,and thankfuly Kaden had a better nights sleep last night only waking twice,compared with every 10-15 minutes the previous night.

Bathtime Boy

Kaden over the past few weeks has relised washing,Bathing is not so bad after all.It used to be a real struggle to get him anywhere near water,so bathing or showering was a real task.But about 3 weeks ago the girls went in the bath with him and he soon settled.So tonight for the first time i sat him in his bath seat and was quite suprised - as he didn't scream the house down!When it was time to take him out he kept shaking his head,so i lifted him out and he cryed,so i put him back in for a few more minutes.As he was sitting in the bath i could see him looking at his hands as they were all pruned looking from being in the water for so long.There's a 1st for everything!!Yesterday i went for a 3D scan and Kaden suprised us yet again by walking unaided round the room while we were waiting to be seen.At home Kadens not so keen as we have wooden floor and can move faster by bum shuffling.At the scan we treid to get a 3d video and picture done - but baby brown was having none of it.His feet were up to his head and also a hand, so we could only see half of his face.She told me to go home and come back later that evening after tea-time to see if he would co-operate,but yet again his feet were down but his hand was in his face.So she told me we'd try again today which we did and yet again Mr Akward had his feet upto his chin and his hand on his face.

Eventually after trying for a while she gave up and said we can try again in a fortnight and hopefuly he'll have moved position.So we made an appointment for the 7th February so here's hoping we can get a look at this Boys face?!

Here Comes Trouble!

Kaden is all over the place these days.He has just learnt to climb the stairs,and this is his new trick.I spent my days running up and down the stairs to catch him just incase he fell backward.So a few days ago we bought a stair gate - best buy ever!!Kaden stood at the gate last night taking a wobbler wanting upstair to his sisters room - but his sisters were ignoring him as he touches everything and is always trying to touch their computers.
I took a photo of him trying to climb the stair gate last night in determination to get to the other side.

I got a phone call from the newspaper Yesterday - saying they were looking over some stories they have done in the past,and would it be ok for them to do a follow up on Kaden.So today a photographer came round to take some photos.Kaden was not amused!!He wanted some pics of Kaden standing.Kaden kept making a run for the stairs...this is Kadens new trick - climbing the stairs (All day long!).
Hopefuly he got a few decent photo's.
I also had the midwife today for a check-up.All went well,she checked the babys heartbeat and also my blood pressure which normaly kreeps up later in pregnacy.But today she said my blood pressurewas the lowest she'd seen it...which is great.My next appointment to see the midwife is in 4 weeks for bloods - something i'm not keen on,but has to be done.

I can hardly believe our litle man turned 17 months on Christmas day and Christmas has been and gone!!We had a quiet Christmas and Boxing day just eating and chillin,it was great...just my usual as my husband would say,doing nothing,HA HA If only!!Kaden and the girls got spoiled again and were happy with their presents.Kaden got a table with a train set on it which he LOVES.

Under the weather

Kaden has been off colour since the weekend.He's been sleeping alot during the day and unsettled at night.For the past 2 nights i've slept in the lounge from around 3a.m with Kaden as he's been crying constantly and poor Mikes been trying to grab some sleep before heading to his work.
Kaden has had a temperature and he's also been sick.We were suppost to change his milk this week after stopping it over the weekend to see if it was the milk that was making him sick.But now i think he's picked up a bug which will just take time to shift.
I called the dietition today to cancel an appointment Kaden had for Thursday as his new milk will need different packs for his continuious night feed - so they wer going to show me how to use them.But as i said to her Kadens still not right and i'd rather wait until he's better to change his milk,as i get a delivery on Tuesday.
Kaden is lying sleeping as i write this and he's not a happy chappie at the moment and it's so hard trying to get anything done without him crying when i put him down.
Hopefuly tomorrow he'll feel better.

'Remembering All Angels'

Tonight at 7 p.m the girls lit candles - Rembering all babies who have been taken away prematurly,and who are now angels.Babies such as Skyla and Elli and Faith,Kaden who all passed away this year due to CDH.There are many more Angels out there who have had other issues,so tonight we have been rembering them all.They will NEVER be forgotten.

Kaden went to the physio yesterday.She just really observed his movements and played with him.Kaden HATES physio.He's fine until the lady goes near him or moves him.We started off in the big gym type room,and then she moved rooms to one with lots of lights and a disco ball.She put all the lights on and put off the bright light and Kaden was not impressed.Kaden seems to be coming along well,slow but sure - and hes only 16 1/2 months so hopefuly soon he'll be walking.Recently Kaden has been walking round the furniture and showing more interest in walking so hopefuly it wont be long.She made an appointment to see us again the beginning of February.
Our only main concern is still his feeding.Yesterday the dietition met with us and changed his milk for during the day to a higher calorie feed and we have to give him less of a bolus during the day so hopefuly he'll be more hungry.We never have 2 days the same at mealtimes.Sometimes Kaden will eat a few spoons the next he keeps his mouth firmly closed.This is another thing that will come - one day.If all goes well with his new milk they will chance his overnight feeds to the same milk.This will make life a bit easier as the overnight feed comes in a pack and i'll just ned to hang it up.

I had my detailed scan yersterday.All looks fine and the baby seems to be growing well.The sonographer had a good look over the baby and measured the head,thigh bone and other areas.She said everything looks fine,but they will check the babys heart in detail at my next scan in 2 weeks.We asked if the stomach was in the right place and she said yes 'why do you ask this'.We told her our last baby was born with a diaphragmatic hernia,so she reasured us the diagphram was there,but this is something they will keep an eye on in future scans.
On to Kaden - he's a little monkey he is into everything!!Today he was in the bedroom trying to put his sisters hairband on (shhhhh dont tell his dad!)
And this weekend Brooke ,Kadens oldest sister is 13 - so shes having some friend over for a sleepover so we'll have a busy house.

Kaden and His Best Friend

Kaden is on the move at the speed of lightning nowadays(on his bottom).He follows the dog around like a sheep and she LOVES him as she gets plenty of titbits.He has started stroking her and touching her sometimes more gently than others.The other day i was at the cooker and he was right next to the dog looking out of the back door slapping the side of her(thinking he was being gentle).He also throws her food allover the floor - he's a nightmare,i need eyes in the back of my head!!
Last night we had a night out - a leaving party for a freind of mine who's emmigrating to Austrailia next week.We all went and Kaden stayed awake and was quite happy looking around watching everything that was going on.On the way home the snow was coming down and the kids were desperate to get up in the morning to see if the snow was lying thick.
We woke up the snow lying today much to the girls delight and Kaden's been loving looking out the window watching his sisters playing in it.
I got the 2nd results back yesterday of my ammnio and the baby is fine and has no genetic disorders.
Thats a big weight off my mind.

Kaden had the hospital on Monday for a neo-natal check up and a button change.The doctor from the neo-natal had Kadens height and weight done.His weight was 8.56kg.She was pleased with the way he's progressing as far as development goes.She said he was tall but slight in weight.She asked if he was pointing at things and saying words yet.As far as words goes he tries everything.He can say car,dog ,dad,mum,gaga (grandpa),he certainly tries to repeat words.She said overall she's not too concerned over anything at the moment but she wants to see him in 3 months.She said the only thing she would have put us forward for was physio,but since he already goes to physio she's quite happy.
Then on Wednesday Kaden had a check-up with the surgeon.He just asked some questions about how Kaden was getting on and if we were happy with his progress.Which we said his feeding is an issue,but as the surgeon says we just have to be patient and one day it'll come.Although saying that recently Kaden has been more intersted in eating orally - very runny food but at least he opens his mouth now.
The surgeon says he'll see Kaden in 9 months just to keep a tab on him,but from a surgical point of view he's happy with the outcome.

Lazy

I'm getting lazy with Kadens blog these days...i don't mean to but i always think i'll do it later,and a week passes so quickly.And i have no excuse this week as we have been hanging around the house alot!
Kaden is back to normal cheeky self,looking and feeling alot better.Kaden has the hospital next week to see the surgeon and also for his 12 month + neo-natal check.
This week also i had an amnio done...i had one done with Kaden because i had to,but this time i asked for one just to check everything is ok.I had forgotten what it's like to have an amnio and i was terrified,but really i shouldn't have worried.The staff at the hospital are so great at taking your mind off it when your getting the procedure done and it only takes around 5 minutes or so.
The nurse said to take it easy for the next wee while,and she would phone me hopefuly within 3 days with the 1st set of results.
Yesterday that long awaited call came,and she said the first results had came through and were fine...meaning the baby has not got Down Syndrome,Edwards or Patau.Which has been a great relief.
The nurse said the final results of the test should come back in around 2 - 2 1/2 weeks,as they have to grow these cells.So fingers crossed they'll come back ok too,although she did say if the 1st set of results are fine very rarely do they find a problem with the 2nd set...so heres hoping!
I would scan in my sono picture but i'm not too sure how to,maybe i'll get my husband to show me later.

Kaden woke up at 4.30a.m coughing on Monday morning and bringing some of his feed up again.So once the doctors opened i took him there for them to check him over.In the car on the way to the doctors he was sick everywhere.The doctor checked him over,his ears his temp and throat.Apart from Kadens throat being a bit red he said he was full of the cold but just to keep an eye on him and if he slept more than normal or was bringing up his feeds to take him straight back.
The rest of the day he coughed and was unsettled but kept his feeds down...thank goodness as he cant afford to loose any more weight.Kaden was weighed on admission to hospital and he's 17lbs 2oz and back in June he weighed 17lbs 10 oz,i'm a little concerned so i've got the physio tommorrow with Kaden so i'll see if i can talk to the dietition.

Hospital Stay

We went home to get some clothes for Kadens stay in hospital and then headed straight back.Once at the hospital the nurse took us through to the admissions ward.She took some detail about Kaden and told us a doctor woul be with us shortly.Not long after the doctor came round and i expalind about Kaden over the last few days.He said he was glad the doctor had admitted Kaden as he was dehydrated.So their plan was to put him, on a drip over night through his gasrostomy.And if allwas well Kaden would get home the following day.They started his drip at 25mls per hour to see if he could tollerate that,and after a few hours they upped it to 50mls per hour which he kept down.The admission ward is such a busy ward i could hardly sleep with people coming and going all night,i had a pull down bed next to Kaden which was fine.I got up at 5.30a.m as i couldn't sleep any longer and waited for the doctors rounds.Around 9a.m the doctors came round and checked him over and said we were to start his feeds again and if he kept all his feeds down during the day he would get home.Thankfully Kaden kept all his feeds down so we got home around tea-time.With a 24hour access to go back to the hospital if we were concerned with him.

We arrived home from our holidays to Australia on Friday tea-time...To pouring rain!!We all had a great holiday and tried to pack in as much as we could in a short space of time.The weather was great.Each day we got up and headed for somewhere different.We went to Hilarys Harbour to the underwater aquarium,and also Aventure world and the girls got their picture taken with a Koala.We also went to Caversham Park ,which was a wildlife park and there was a whole lot of different animals to see there.The kids loved the Kangaroos which were in an enclosure you could walk through and feed them...in fact they liked the park so much the day we checked out of our hotel we went back to the park for a visit before returning home.The day we were leaving Kaden woke up with a high temperature,so i gave him some calpol.Out flight was 10.30p.m so i though he would sleep on the flight as we intende to use his feeding pump overnight.During the flight Kaden was very unsettled and was sick a number of times so we turned off his pump.Once on our next flight Kaden still had a high temperature and was still unsettled.So we continued to starve him until we arrived home.All day Saturday Kaden slept and hardly lifted his head,and if anyone picked him up he would throw himself backwards.So by teatime i called the on call doctors who told me they wanted to see him.We took him to the surgery which is just opposite the hospital.The doctor said his temperature was fine and his ears were okay but she was going to admitt him to hospital because of his history.

We found out a few weeks ago - i'm pregnant(total surprise!)Today i had my 12 week scan.I explained i'm anxouis about this pregnancy,just incase anything should/would be wrong.They have booked me in for an amnio at 16 weeks and thereafter i have a scan booked for 20 weeks and 22 weeks.The doctor also booked my c-section today for the 15th April 2009 - sounds ages away but'll soon come round.At the scan today they couldnt tell quite yet if all is well but hopefuly by next time we'll have a better idea.We're just keeping our finger crossed all will be well.

The countdown is on - 2 more days until we're off to Australia for a holiday.We cant wait.Hopefuly Kaden will sleep most of the flight,it's going to be a long 17 hour flight if not!!Today in Scotland it's pretty grey and windy,so hopefuly in Oz we'll get some better weather - it cant be any worse than here.

Kadens physio appointment

Kaden had an appointment with the physio this morning.He seemed to cope really well...although still a few tears.The physio has been working on his flexability,getting to stand and bend.Kaden was in a room with all brightly coloured soft play type equiptment...which he seemed to be happy enough with.He did cry from time to time and looked at me as if to say HELP MUM!!It makes me feel guilty when she's trying to work him hard and he's upset - but it's for Kadens own good and benefit in the long run.All in all the physio seemed happy enough with Kaden and said just to keep working with him and his mobility.Kaden has become a master at his bum shuffling,he can now go at some speed so nothing is safe.The pysio made an appointment for the end of October to see Kaden again.So from here on in we'll just keep working with Kaden at home until he becomes a bit stronger.

Funny

Kaden has become quite funny these days.He follows me everywhere on his little train,and opens the cupboards in the kitchen and pull things out.I cant even go to the bathroom but a little face appears at the door!He was in the kitchen yesterday with his hand in the dogs bowl throwing her food everywhere,(if its not his hands thats in her bowl its his feet)and having a little taste at the same time!!If he's not spinning around on his train he's bum shuffling across the floor (which he's perfecting at a good speed also).I suppose i should be making the most of it while he's not walking ,as he'll be 100 times worse when he is!

Kaden had great fun yesterday...the sun actually shone at this end of the wolrd for a change!So we took a nice long walk to the park and the girls and mike went on their bikes.We walked along the old railway line to get to the park which took about 30 minutes.Once we arrived at the park the girls got an ice-cream and we headed for the swings.Kaden LOVES the swings.He also went on an basket type swing with the girls which he also LOVED.And once it was time to head off home and take him off the swing he started crying.
We headed back home via the railway line again,but mike and brooke got impatient waiting on Regan,Kaden and i so they cycled off home and left us to walk at our own speed...which wasn't very fast.Never mind we all made it home eventually.
A great day had by all.

Physio

Kaden had the physio at the hospital yesterday.He did really well.She had him doing his sitting to standing,and played with some coloured cubes and a giant ball.The physio said he was doing real well and she could see a big difference from last time.She also said to get him to use his walker more - to get him used to walking pushing something.Kaden actualy didn't cry (as much) as usual,he played quite happy until she tryed to get him to crawl...and then he lost it!!The physio said Kaden's pelvis is still wobbly and she'd like to see him in a month,but because we're on holiday she's made a appointment for the 1st October.Then his next appointments at the hospital is November for a 12months+ neo-natal check and an appointment with the surgeon.
Kaden is sitting at my feet as i write this throwing sweeties allover the place..as i gave him a tin of sweets to play with to keep him amused,and they certainly have.

Kaden is getting cheekier by the day - he looks at you with his big eyes and cheeky grin.As of the last few days Kadens cold has all but gone.His feeding is improving,slow but sure.He has the physio on Monday...so that'll is something he hates - anything with a bit of effort put into it!!
Kaden got a little winnie the pooh sit on train for his birthday - and he's just worked out how to use it with no help.(he LOVES it!)Yesterday i took a video of him whizzing around the lounge on it,and also took some photos.
As i write this my boy has my car keys and is scrapping them up and down his dad's office cream walls...never mind that's what boys are here for making a mess!!Never mind daddys blue eyed boy will get away with it - and knowing his dad he won't even notice!!

'1 Year Today'

One year ago today Kaden got home from hospital.We can hardly believe where time has gone!!When we look back at Kaden then and look at him now it's hard to believe what he's been through.These days Kaden continues to take steps in the right direction and it's great to watch his every move.He can finally say mama,as for the last few months all i've heard was dada and it was wearing a little thin!!ha ha.Kaden also loves playing with his football and he can say ball.
His feeding seems to be coming along,with Kaden being a bit more interested in food -when he see's the girls with food he come flying over in his babywalker.And he also will take a good few spoons before he shakes his head!(although saying that he doesn't eat enough to keep a bird alive)so we'll just be patient and one day it'll come - in his own time.
What a difference a year makes!!

Stuffy nose

Kaden over the last few days has been unsettled during the night and been quite sick in the morning.He's also had some very runny nappies and been coughing.So today i called to get an appointment with the doctor.After looking in his ears and checking his temperature(which was fine)she said to keep an eye on him as far as his cough goes incase he has got croup.And to give him calpol to avoid him getting a temperature.She said if he didn't improve by Friday to go back to have him checked over before the weekend just to be on the safe side.Although his nose has been streaming constantly and he's been coughing he's seems happy enough within himself.He also had a hospital appointment today to get his button changed as it has been leaking for a few weeks now.That took all of ten minutes and we were off back home again.
As i write this Kadens whizzing around on his baby walker touching everything insight and quite pleased with himself!!

Kaden hasn't really been too fussed about eating as of late - but we still persivere every day.Today Kaden had some yogurt at lunchtime and seemed to quite enjoy it (a few spoons is better than nothing).He enjoyed sticking his fingers in it more and smearing it allover his highchair.He also to a few licks of a cheesy crisp and threw the rest overboard for the dogs (Kadens best friends, as they know they'll get what he chucks over!!).

Kaden had his 13 month injections yesterday - he got his Mumps,Measles & Rubella,and also pneumococcal which he got one in each leg.He cryed at first but stopped very quickly.Thats the last of the injections for a while until he's 3 years and 4 months.After the doctors appointment we headed home in the pouring rain and decided to stay put all day.Once home Kaden was a happy boy,although he was sick all over his clothes once he was fed.So i changed him into his PJ's and we just chilled out the rest of the day.

I also just heard today another baby with cdh was born in Glasgow Scotland last week - Her name is Jo and she was 5lb 2oz,and she had her hernia repair done yesterday.So far she's sedated and the doctors are waking her up on Thursday!!

'End of Summer'

Well this is the end of summer this end of the world in more ways than one!!The first day back to school for all the children and another wet and wild day.Brooke started high school for the first time today and Regan went into Primary 6.They were desperate to go back to school to see their friends again.The way the weeks are flying in it won't be long before Kadens off to school!It's all down hill from here on in as far as the weather goes.The nights will start getting dark from next month onwards.We are just waiting for the next school holidays to come round - as we're off to Austrailia for just over 2 weeks.Never mind with Australia on the horizon i think we can cope with the drizzly weather for a bit longer!!

Worrying....

Over the last few weeks i am becoming more worried about Kaden.Since he had his fundo done back in January - he wasn't sick at all.But over the last month or so he's starting wrenching every morning about an hour before his pump goes off and being sick.And sometimes it can be a good few mouthfuls.I'm starting to wonder if everythings ok down below - or whether it's because he's wrenching so much he's loosened his fundo??Even during the day during bolus feeds you can see Kaden is uncomfortable and starts whinning even once he sees the syringe coming.Also Kadens button has started leaking again and needs replaced sooner these days so maybe that too has something to do with his wretching??We dont have an appointment with the surgeon until November - but deep down i would like to get Kaden to get an X - Ray just to check everythings ok and still in place.But also i dont want the doctor to think i'm telling him his job?
Kaden also has the Health vistor this week to get 2 jabs - 1 in each leg.So i'm not looking forward to Thursday.
To look at Kaden these days he looks a healthy 1 year old - i hope i'm not worrying over nothing??

The girls and mike and rio the dog had great fun last night camping out.They actually got a dry night!They went into the tent around 10p.m with a whole lot of goodies for a midnight snack.Even the dog couldn't wait to get in!I went up to Brookes room to close her window about 1/2 hour after they went to the tent - and all i could hear was chatting and laughing and crisp bags rustling!!When i was closing the window i noticed a heagehog running across the road - so out Brooke jumps with her torch trying to see it.A great time was had by all even Kaden and i had a great time - even though it was quieter than usual in the brown household!!Here's some pictures of my happy campers in the tent.

Rain,Rain go away

The girls were devestated on Wednesday when they woke up tp torrential rain.There beloved tent was wet inside!!Yesterday it rained on and off too ,so they had to take their duvet and pillows in to dry off.Kaden had some fun playing on Brookes bed (Wednesday) with Brookes Elmo she had from a baby.And today the girls were so glad when they woke up to dry weather...Although first thing this morning we had to go to town to get some final school uniform for them returning to school a week on Tuesday.Once we got home the girls headed straight for the tent armed with the duvet,pillows nad 2 sleeping bags.And i got my orders to try to patch it up.So in the garage i found a tarpaulin which we put over the tent and it fits perfect(its a raincover for a bouncy castle we had)-So the moto is dont throw things out!And at tea-time the sun ventured out.So Kaden had a quick spin in the garden in his car...then in for tea.Usual feeding time and issues with Kaden.We try every day with Kadens oral feeds but he hardly opens his mouth.Today wasn't any different - i tryed him with tomato and ham pasta bake(jar)he took about 2 spoons and turns his head.So then we tried chocolate mousse and the same again about 2 spoons and refuses to have any more.Never mind hopefuly one day soon he'll be asking for seconds!?We live in hope.
Tonight the girls and mike and 1 of our dogs are having a sleepover in the tent - i dont suppose anyone apart from Kaden and I will be sleeping that much!?ha ha

The last few days have been nice and quiet - doing not much at all.Having long lies in the morning,which has been great as the kids are still off on holidays until the 19th August(so we better make the most of our long lies!)Yesterday the girls were chomping at the bit to take down the trampoline enclosure and put up the tent on top of the trampoline to use as a play tent.When we bought the ramploine we got this tent with it free.And so far it hasn't been used.So the girls and i took down the enclosure and tried to put up th trampoline?Me?and instructions?DONT WORK!!Anyway...we tried our best and put the tent poles in place and once Mike came home we managed to put the tent on the trampoline.The kid are sooooooooo delighted.They were raking round looking for padlocks,torches and a duvet to put in it.First thing this morning guess were they headed..you're right the tent.Where they spent most of the day.Apart from getting their breakfast outside on paper plates - i harldy saw them at all,unless they came in for the toilet!Kaden also had great fun in the tent today,i put him in the tent for about 1/2 hour with the girls so i could get the floors washed.He was enjoying it so much i could hear him skweeling inside the house.

Kadens Hospital Appointment

Kaden had a busy day yesterday - he had to see the physio at the hospital and the dietition and speech and language lady.As usual when we arrived at the hospital their were no parking spaces so we had to circle round a good few times and eventually we got a space.Running at the last minute we made it to the physio just in time.She worked with Kaden for about 30 minutes,getting him to concenate on sitting to standing.Kaden hates any kind of effort and cryed the whole way through - he was soaking of sweat!The physio said i should prop him up against the sofa and have a step or something half way between the floor and the sofa to get him used to sitting and standing,and if he falls he will relise he doesn't have too far to fall.She also said Kaden is terrifed of falling and we need to keep working with this issue and hopefuly he'll learn to loose his fear.The dietition also met us at the physio and said she had spoke to Kadens surgeon about an issue i was concerned about (he's recently started being sick 1st thing in the morning once his pump goes off)but she said its something they are not concered about.So on the feeding front we're sticking to what we do now - 3x bolus 80ml feeds a day and 50ml for 12 hours at night on his pump and keep trying oral feeds.The speech lady said the same about his feeding - keep at it every day and give him finger foods.But she feels he has an underlying problem with sensory issues as Kaden hates getting wet of any kind.He screams in the Bath and the shower so she was going to get us to see an occupationa therapist.This is fine with me,we need to find what he is scared of?

We met Kadens surgeon in the hall of the hospital just as we were about to leave and had a quick chat with him and he asked how Kaden was and if we had seen the dietition(which we had).He asked if the girls were enjoying the holidays.He is such a caring man(Thank godness for special people in the world like him)

Just before we left the hospital we bought a local paper and Kadens article was in it.

Kaden had another nice day today.We invited some friends round after 3p.m for a little party for Kaden.Just before they arrived i thought i'll give Kaden a quick bolus feed down his button...unknown to me i hadn't hooked the tube in right.So after what i thought i was finished his feed i relised my poor boy was soaking, i hadnt hooked his tube in properly so it was flowing allover my bed and Kaden (As they say - more hurry less speed) so Kaden had a few changes of clothes today.The weather was great again today which made the day perfect.Kadens Uncle and Auntie appeared with their burger van to save us doing any cooking.They also brought a sponge cake for Kaden and we had bought an icecream cake..which went down a treat!Kaden was delighted when they gave him his present...a ride on yellow aston martin which we can control by remote.Kaden got lots of nice presents and had a great day watching all the kids playing.My friends 8 month old Dillon was here and i took some pictures of them together - Kaden was touching his head and watching him all the time.Boy is it hard work getting my boy to smile!!Another great day had by all - and 2 girls less as they went home with our friends for a sleep over.

Kadens had a busy day today - being 1 is a hard job!!This morning when he woke i dont know who was more excited - Kaden or me?!Kadens sisters opened his cards and gave him a present(a drum)he loves banging things so that'll keep him occupied for a while.Then his nannie and grandpa popped round with more pressies.Kaden go a garage from thm and a vtech walker which he loves.He also got clothes and more clothes from his other granny and grandpa & Auntie.Also this morning our local paper called to say they would like to do an article on Kaden now as they did one when he came home from hospital,so they would like to do a follow up on how he's getting on.So this afternoon the photographer from the paper came round and took some photos of us all together and some of Kaden on his own,and asked for some photos of Kaden when he was in hospital.I think the story will be in tommorrows paper.Kaden is now konked out wired up to his pump ready for part 2 tommorrow!

Tommorrow is Kadens big day he's 1 year old!Can hardly believe this time last year of how uncertain our unborn baby's outcome in life would be.We're so proud of every little milestone our son achieves and how he battles on no matter what was thrown at him in his early days.We're so thankful to have a happy healthy boy as CDH is a devastating condition for all concerned and has a very high mortality rate.And hopefuly one day soon there will be more that can be done for this dreadful condition.

We're having a little party for him on Saturday .We've put some recent photo's in the local paper of Kaden tommorrow for his birthday.Kaden had a busy morning trying to get his sisters out of bed to start with and then off to the doctors for 10 a.m to get his immunisation which he got in his right leg,and cryed for all of 1 second and forgot all about it.Then next month he has to get a further 2 injections of which one is the MMR.The last few days Kadens been enjoying the Aberdeen weather which has been really hot and sunny for a change - so we've been making the most of it.Chillin out in the Garden and going for walks.The kids are on Summer holidays right now and they only have 3 weeks more before they go back to school.We're so glad we have stayed home so far in the holidays as the weathers been not too bad.We're saving up for our big hols to Oz in October.(Cant wait)I'll post some photo's of Kaden over the last few days in the garden.

The countdown is on - and Kaden has 7 more days to go until he turns 1!!We can hardly believe where the year has gone and how quickly our special wee man is growing up!!Yesterday Kadens new car arrived and the girls and i put it together(an early present).Kaden couldn't wait to get in it.We need to strap him in as he stands up sometimes in it.Here's some pics of Kaden trying it out today - and boy was he having fun!!

Kaden has now got 6 teeth and boy does he know how to grind them!!Today i sat Kaden in his highchair and put some beans in front of him,but may i say they went everywhere else but his mouth.Kaden has been trying to bum shuffle today which has been quite funny to watch - he doesn't get too far but he can move a bit.He's a real poser as i write this he's sat right in front of the mirror looking at himself and clapping his hands,and rasping.Heres a few pictures of Kaden tonight after his bean episode!.

Kaden had a hearing test at the hospital today - much to his disgust!!He wasn't very co-operative at all.As soon as i sat him in the little chair on his own he started whinning.So the lady asked me to put him on my knee.In front of us was a 2 way mirror which i learnt a man was behind watching Kadens every move.At either side there was 3 boxes on top of each other - one with a green fluffy thing in it,the other had a fire engine in it,and the other had a white rabbit in it.As soon as the man started the noise from the left with the flashing light Kaden started crying.It was like sitting in the ghost train hearing all the noises and scary things all around you with flashing lights.Kaden was not impressed!!After the test he said he had no concerns with Kadens hearing,had i?I have no issues at all with his hearing.He said he wouldn't see Kaden again unless we had any worries and was refferred upto the hospital again.He told me the reason he was checking his hearing was that Kaden had spent more than 5 days in the neo-natal and often these babies have hearing problems.
I'm glad that tests over with and thats another hurdle we have got over with flying colours.
We also met with the dieticion who asked about Kadens feeding.Kaden never seems too keen to eat anything.She said she'll have a word with the surgeon and the speech and language people and we'll catch up on the 28th July when Kaden has an appointment at the hospital for physio.

Hospital Follow Up Appointment

We had a hospital appointment yesterday to meet with Kadens surgeon - Prof Youngson.He had a look at Kadens gastrostomy site to see all was well,and had a general look over Kadens hospital notes.He asked how Kaden was doing with his oral feeding and finger foods,which i replied not too great.Kadens not really interested in eating oraly at all.The surgeon says we'll just have to be patient and he'll have to keep his button til he eats completly on his own.He said he was happy with Kaden and was i happy with his development - which i am.He said he'll see us again in 4 months.But to catch up with the dietition in the meantime.

Today i got some bad news - a girl i met in hospital (when we were in the neo-natal) called to say her sister was killed instantly in a road crash last night.The poor girl was only 22 years old and heading home from work.

Life can be so cruel and hard at times,and make you relise how lucky we are and to take each day as it comes.

Last night i also got an email from a lady who's pregnant with a baby boy called Kaden who also has CDH,and is due on 25th August.Please keep Jamie and baby Kaden in your prayers.

Kaden was 11 months old on the 25th June - how time flies!!The countdown is now on for his 1st Birthday.Kaden is whizzing everywhere these days in his babywalker.Today was a lovely day and Kaden spent some time in his walker in the garden watching his sister on the trampoline.Kaden has the hospital on Tuesday to get his button changed as the one he has at the moment is leaking - once you stop his feed and unattach the connection you have to close the button real quick as the milk has started to come back out.I called the hospital and the nurse told me his button needs replaced as sometimes the seal stops working after a while.Apart from that no complaint s about Kaden he's just growing up too fast!!We have another appoinment next week to see the surgeon,so hopefully he'll be pleased with Kaden.I'm going to mention to him that Kaden has started being sick after his feeds,which is a new thing - after he had his fundo he was never sick.I think Kaden gags so much maybe he has slackened his fundo op - but i dont know for sure,so we'll wait and see what the surgeon says.

Today has been a really wet and wild day - so we stayed in and built Kadens new big boy bed.Kadens grown out of his moses basket now ,his head was reaching the top.Kaden has now got a racing car bed - and we built it right next to ours for thr forseeable future.Today i took a picture of him snoozing on the bed after his bath.So far he LOVES IT!We'll see when it comes to bedtime!!

On A Sad Note ;

Today our thoughts are with Baby Skylas family - as it is her funeral today as she lost her battle with life on Friday 13th June after fighting so hard for life for 8 months.Her family must be so proud of their little angel.

Kaden has 4 teeth now and a 5th coming through.Kaden is sitting on his own really well these days - although when i put him down to go and do anything he doesn't like it - he just sits and crys!!I'm hoping once he's walking he'll be a happier boy - following me allover the place.He just loves attention.Recently he's been going through a funny stage - when someone talks to him his lippy goes on and he'll start to cry.I'm sure he'll grow out of it.He loves standing onthe sofa looking out of the window at his sisters on the trampoline.Here's him in action;-
